Description:
Flattened caribou skin boot. Foot standard moccasin shape; sewn with sinew at heel and back, gathered and sewn to instep piece. Legging (14″ high) constructed from single piece of material, sewn to instep, foot opening and up the side. Double strip (approx. 1″ wide) through which thong is slipped, sewn to top. Instep painted with red and blue geometric tree-like design. Side seams of leggings done in border of red and blue vertical designs enclosing triangular pattern. Similar pattern drawn around legging (approx. 4″ from top). Top seam traced with red line. Thongs passed through doubled piece (approx. 26″ long, 1/3″ wide) of each boot knotted, joining boots.
